The air is now crisp, cool and the days are getting shorter. With fall upon us, it’s time to tell beach weddings “goodbye”, and to turn a new leaf to discover fall trends. From dresses to centerpieces - texture and warm colors are key.
This fall season, wedding dresses are immerging in ruffles and floral accents. Brides have a wide variety of accessories to choose from. The most popular must-have is the bird cage veil. To take this trend to the next level, add a jeweled broach or feathers.

Also, don’t be shy when it comes to fur! To stay warm when the sun goes down, wrap up in a fur bolero. To play up this fall feel, indulge in natural colors such as orange, red, and gold.
Flowers look best this season with a little bit of texture. Fiddle head fern and hypericum berries are nice and go along perfectly with your favorite flower. But you may want to try thistle and even fall fruit or vegetables. When it comes to sweets, cake is not the only form of dessert you can serve your guests. Warm them up with a coffee and tea bar. Instead of the traditional cake try serving mini pies in the best flavors fall has to offer such as pumpkin, pecan, apple, or cherry. Make sure to send your guests off right. Treat them to some candied apples or some toasted pecans!

Shades of Gray, the name of one of my favorite college bands (check out Kenny Floyd on iTunes), but also my new obsession. I love GRAY! There is something about it...this muted black...it's just striking. And per one of my best critics (Mari) "it looks good on everyone!" Who knew?

The Beaufort Inn - May 2008

A true lowcountry wedding. The ceremony began at 6:30 on The Bluff overlooking the Beaufort river. The day was perfect, not too hot and not too humid. With a slight breeze coming over the water, it was breathtaking and comfortable.

The bridesmaids' gowns were a sand colored shantung and they carried bouquets of antique hydrangea and pink peonies. The groomsmen wore ivory dinner jackets and bouts of a single snapdragon tip. The bride wore a beautiful hand embroidered, ivory gown and carried a bouquet of delicate white peonies.

The reception followed at the Beaufort Inn. Guests were greeted with cold beverages and welcomed into the courtyard. Wonderful flavor filled the air as Granville Catering tempted pallets with southern fare. Guests danced the night away to the sounds of the Midnight Movers, all the way from DC.

At the end of the evening, the couple shared one last dance and the horn section of the Midnight Movers led the way to the getaway car. The wedding party and guests picked handfuls of fresh rose petals, to shower the couple with, as they exited. The band then serenaded the couple as they awaited their exit. They said one last goodbye, and away they went.

The Rhett House - May 2008

Liz and Tony selected downtown Beaufort for their classic affair. The ceremony began at 5:00 at the Baptist Church of Beaufort, an historic gem that stands tall on Charles Street.

The bridesmaids dresses were of a Wedgwood blue and they carried monochromatic bouquets of creamy white vendella roses. The groomsmen wore simple bouts of the same vendella rose. Liz was the lady in white(my favorite). She wore an all white gown and carried a bouquet of vendella roses and white hydrangea. Simply stunning.

The reception followed at the historic Rhett House Inn. Guests walked from the church and were greeted with glasses of bubbling champagne, dyed Wedgwood blue. The sounds of a duo from the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra filled the small courtyard for the cocktail hour.

Guests picked up tiny silver bells as they entered the event area and surrounded the dance floor. When Liz and Tony entered, guests "rang" in the happy new couple. The Tony Howard Show stole the rest of the evening.

The couple sent their guests away with hugs and kisses (in the form of chocolate).

First Event of 2008

What a wonderful way to start the year. With standing room only, this Beaufort couple's 5:30 ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, South Carolina was just perfect.

The bridesmaids wore dresses of a deep wine, MJ's signature color, and were accented with apple green and ivory bouquets of vendella roses, cymbidium orchids and hypericum berries. The groomsmen wore simple masculine bout's of monochromatic hypericum. MJ's stunning Anne Barge gown was the perfect backdrop for her magnificent bouquet of black magic roses.

Guests were greeted in front of the River House of Coosaw Point with a signature beverage- melon ball prosecco-and welcomed inside as they awaited the arrival of the new couple. MJ's portrait stood in the foyer with a coffee table book of Beaufort as the sign-in book.

The wine and apple green color scheme continued throughout many different decor elements - split pea filled hurricanes, hanging amaranthus and black magic centerpieces, cymbidium orchids galore!

When the couple arrived-The party began! Guests danced the night away, with the bride and groom, to the sounds of "The Mighty Kicks". The new Mr. and Mrs. Simmons left in a vintage 1940 Plymouth that I decorated with a "Just Married" sign and the signature wine ribbons. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic.

Gopher Hill Festival

The first week of October every year for 37 years, the Gopher Hill Festival is held in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Southern Splendor

Held on the grounds of beautiful Chelsea Plantation in Jasper County, this mid August wedding was completely southern. From the moss draped oaks to the blooming azaleas, the fresh picked hydrangeas to the mule drawn hunting wagon, this southern born couple integrated all aspects of home into their perfect day.

Vintage Whimsy

Black, white and yellow all over!

This simple and fun wedding was that of Ashley's little sister, Tiffany. Much NOT like her older sister, she wanted a small, casual - sort of whimsical affair. Held the 9th of September on the bank of the Colleton river, the evening was filled with sweet little white daisies, sundresses, and smiles. The simple white field daisy-Tiffany's favorite flower-was the inspiration for the decor.
